UX Design: Kill Team Companion App

UX Research | Interaction | Visual Design | Prototyping & Testing | Casestudy

[

Players of the popular Warhammer Kill Team tabletop game were limited in easily creating a Command Roster or Kill Team List. The Kill Team Companion App was designed to solve this problem and was my graduation assignment for the User Experience Research & Design coarse offered by Coursera.

APP DESIGN

A useful app that let’s you build Command Rosters and Kill Team List wherever you are.

The Kill Team Companion App is meant to create and edit Command Rosters and Kill Team List easier. User can:

  • Make, edit or delete Command Rosters and or Kill Team Lists.
  • Get access to new options that were added through the Kill Team Commanders and Kill Team Elites expansions.
  • Keep track of Campaign resources.
  • Share Command Rosters and/ or  Kill Team Lists with friends.
  • Have offline access to Command Rosters and Kill Team Lists
  • Stop the unnecessary use of paper.
  • Build Command Rosters and/ or Kill Team lists fast and easy.

USER TEST

Which user test questions needed to be answered?

The following questions were the foundation for my user test:

  • Can Warhammer Kill Team players use the app to plan Command Rosters and Kill Team Lists?
  • What kind of problems do Warhammer Kill Team players face when using the app to plan their Command Rosters and Kill Team Lists?

DESIGN

An iterative UX design process offers many ideas.

The first phase of the iterative design process is sketching. I selected numerous designs that would fit the app best. This resulted in multiple low fidelity prototypes. To design the medium fidelity prototypes I switched over to Adobe XD. During this time I did not spend a lot of time on details. I did experiment with different visual styles.

PROTOTYPE

A prototype can always be improved.

These screenshots show different keytasks that users of the Kill Team Companion App can perform. The screenshots are meant to offer a general view of the layout, the information, the navigational architecture and the look and feel of the system.
